What should I do if my baggage goes missing?

According to the IATA, if you have missing or lost baggage, the first thing you should do is report it to the baggage claims department of the airport as soon as you arrive at your end destination.

Most airlines use a global baggage tracing system, which will compare your lost items to similar ones that have been reported at airports all over the world. The vast majority of mishandled baggage is returned to the passenger within 48 hours.
